About the Instructor

Meredith Lyons T.C.R.G is the owner and instructor of the Lyons Academy of Irish Dance. A native to Long Beach, California, Meredith began her dance career in 1993 by attending classes in San Pedro and throughout Orange County. During her competitive years, while attending numerous Regional and National championships, Meredith qualified five times for The World Irish Dance Championships in Ireland and Scotland. She competed all five times in the solo dance portion and once in a Senior Ladies 8-hand team competition.

While competing, Meredith co-taught alongside her own dance teacher, Doireann Maoileidigh-Hoy and developed a deep love for teaching and coaching all ages and levels of dance. Meredith was also afforded many performance opportunities such as dancing in small tours with the band, "Men of Worth," being featured for a dance clip on "Jib Jab Media," and dancing in an appearance on the hit T.V. show, "Scrubs."

After graduating from California State University Long Beach in 2006, and dancing at her last competition at the World Championships in 2007, Meredith decided to stop competing in order to focus on the T.C.R.G exam to begin her own dance school. In 2008 she began preparing and studying for the exam, and in 2010, after passing the exam, Lyons Academy of Irish Dance was officially founded.

Our Focus

The Lyons Academy of Irish Dance offers a learning environment where dancers develop coordination, rhythm, grace, personal achievement, teamwork and confidence through the art of traditional Irish step-dance. With a strong emphasis on proper technique and development of skill, dancers can further their dance experience through participation in performance and competition opportunities throughout the year. Classes encourage and ignite interest in the dancers to reach their potential through positive coaching and reinforcement.
